Kidza...

Who would have thought that the majority of our fun at Lollapalooza on Sunday was in fact had at Kidzapalooza... as if the Rock & Roll Hairdooz, Photoshootz, Arts at Play, dancing, organic drinks, unique t-shirts throughout the crowd, and the Remo Drum Circle with John Yost weren't enough, we got to see Perry Farrell and Peter Distefano. They drew a crowd from newborn to 65+ years in age... there's a little kid in everyone! The whole adventure was well worth venturing out into the heat in search of live entertainment with a little "shade" on the side.

Isn't it amazing that we ache for some adult time without the kids and then we go and do something and are attracted and amazed by all the stuff we know our kids would love? I don't know if you had your child, but I would be like, "Man, we should have brought the kids, look at this, they would have loved this."
But...if they were there, I would be like, "Damn, it is too hot here, the kids won't stop hanging on me and not they are crabby, I spilled my beer and lost my cell phone, let's go home and next year get a sitter."

I guess that is what makes life interesting and fun. I wouldn't give up the mom life for anything... even though a little more alone mom time would be nice. I am only asking for time to pee alone, maybe shower and once and while buy clothes that I can try on At the store...I know I ask too much.....

Yay for whats his name who started this lolla-deal. I think it's admirable that they thought about the fact that all generations can be reached through music - and reaching the little ones is key to creating dedicated and discerning fans! Just think, those little folks will be able to brag to their friends that they were at lollapalooza in diapers! Just remember, as GFD said, the grass is ALWAYS greener! Realistically, the answer is to have Kidzapalooza at a completely different time than Lollapalooza (however the hell you spell that). Like, concerts all day Friday and Saturday and then Sunday afternoon dedicated to the kid-rockers. Then there would be both adult and parent time. We definitely need to expose our kids to really cool stuff like that. But, we also need our time to ourselves to do adult stuff. Why would you combine the boozing and moshing with strollers and baby bjorn's? Does this sound old and cynnical? I hope not, because I don't mean to be so - I love boozing and moshing AND I love that my kids like cool music and bands :-). I'd much rather they jam out to the Fratellis or the Sex Pistols than Brittney psyco-slut or Ashley whoever. But, it's kind of like vacations - I know my kids would have loved Costa Rica - but in a completely different way than we enjoyed it - in a group of 8 adults. I think the key is that we continue to do our adult stuff, but plan on making sure we give our kids great experiences, too.

The answer for us to the age old question - adults flying solo v. adults with kids... the three day pass. Kidzapalooza ended by 4:30 each day so there was very little boozing and moshing with strollers and baby bjorn's to be seen. Nothing more than an occasional stumble off in the distance as we left the park. As for what happened after we left... Mr. Shady might be better suited to fill you in on that.
