Last night I attended a very large and festive Fourth of July party at a friends house. I believe there were at least 100 people there. A pig was roasted, drinks a plenty and side dishes up the wazoo. Now this party was at a close friend's house, whom for all purposes now and in the future should only be referred to as "Grappaman". Grappaman had his own stash of fireworks-four wheelbarrows full. If only my camera didn't die on me, it would have been a great photo of him wearing a spelunking headlamp wheeling out a boat load of pyrotechnics. Anyhow, he preceded to pass out safety glasses to his guests and at first I thought it was a joke, apparently not. He had his own little show going on. There were two big ones that went astray, one almost landing in a trampoline full of kids and the other nearly hitting a giant blow up slide. The safety glasses were needed! Now this is an adult man, he is at free will, nobody was making him risk his life as penance for a crime, what is it that possesses men to want to start things on fire and blow things up? I am all for tension release-is it a testosterone thing? Do any of you women like to blow things up? I just think of the giant mess it will make and I am pretty sure I would have to clean most of it up. I also know the first time I would try lighting off a firework would be the time the disgruntled pyrotechnics junky screwed around with the explosive stuff and made the thing backwards, just for the hell of it, and it would blow up my hand, or shoot my eye out. Then I would have to tell the story and nobody would feel bad for me because they all know that I shouldn't' have done it in the first place. I would just be the stupid, irresponsible mom that nobody would let their kids hang out with anymore. See, I think it may be another double standard. Men are allowed and often encouraged,( as heard from my cousin, now lovingly named "Frank" (after a Mr. Llyod Wright and a Mr. Gehry) in many states like Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana to buy and shoot off fireworks, it is no big deal. It doesn't surprise me, but it does worry me.
In conclusion to this meaningless entry, I just found out that some bastards came into my friends yard after the party was over and stole a bunch of stuff, including an ipod, beano game, wine and more. Who are these dirtbags? Why do people think it is okay to help themselves to things that are not theirs. I am really pissed and feel bad for my friends... I am not exhibiting good energy or positive thoughts, I am just angry, actually I feel more empathy for my very generous friends that they had this happen to them. I believe what goes around comes around and maybe this thief will buy one of those screwed up fireworks and............................

OK, I think I'm hooked and I think this blogging thing will become yet another one of my addictions, so I only have you to thank-gfd or are you gfl??
Anyway, I too was at that fabulous party and am very disheartened to hear of the shitty behavior that followed. One bad apple....
On another note, my experience at the party was quite enlightening as I had a conversation with a couple that went to an "underground, warehouse" active art performance that included, "tribal drums, electronics, water, and live sex acts." Who knew such things exsisted? Not I?
So it really is true that you learn something new everyday.- OWATOF-AKA: Oliver with a twist of lime.
In response to the vandalism. . .We live close to the Geneva High School and have been victims of many types of vandalism - from kids slicing our volleyball nets to them driving into our yard to plow over our snowmen. It is a sad thing. On the other hand, I do think that people are truly repaid "karma-ickly" (nice word, eh?) and that although they may be proud of their piracy, in the end my guess is that they are underpriviledged somehow. Whether it be the loving and well intentioned discipline of their parents or the lack of positive influences in their lives. Either way - regardless of what it is - they are missing something significant in their lives. I'm not a religious person, but I'm still inclined to feel sorry for those folks. It's important to focus on the positives - the good food, fabulous friends and overall great times instead of letting that one, underpriviledged, pathetic human or group of humans, ruin the memories. Karma always prevails and staying positive - amidst the negativity - is a powerful skill.
Welcome Oliver! I bet there are a whole lot of strange behaviors you may not (nor want) to know about out there. Just surf the web and you can get an education rather quickly-or stay away-ignorance is bliss. But, that art party did sound interesting, music, electronics, live sex, throw in a steak and a round of golf and my husband would never leave. This is GFD-by the way. Sorry if I got you hooked, it is a fun creative outlet. But you need to fix your acronym, you have OWATOF, I think you mean OWATOL, your'e a twist of lime right, not figs, or fruit or fairydust???right? See ya. :)
